BlueAdapt builds pathways for sustainable blue growth by promoting innovations and adaptive governance.
Finland’s rivers, lakes, as well as coastal and marine waters, are an underrecognized resource for building future success and Finnish welfare. Aquatic environments provide valuable opportunities for growth, but at the same time, their future is also threatened by some of today’s economic activities, together with climate change.
BlueAdapt develops new ways to support sustainable blue growth in food production, energy and tourism. To reach the twin goals of sustainable growth and good ecological status of waters, BlueAdapt seeks societally significant innovations and development paths, as well as novel forms of governance and regulation. Together with key stakeholders, BlueAdapt will co-create a science-based policy proposal, the Blue Economy Action Plan. The action plan will contain proposals for new measures promoting adaptation and growth, a coherent proposal for a legislative reform, and finally, actions to improve the role of the public sector in promoting adaptation.
