Moona Hartman
Moona is the linguist of Demos Helsinki, always ready to dive into the topic of how language shapes the world and the way we see it. She believes that (wordplay and) words play a part in how we can build up or rip down societal structures and therefore fight for a fairer, more sustainable and joyful future. Curiosity is her ultimate compass, and she’s always keen to follow a new thread, exploring how societal issues could be approached differently.
Before Demos Helsinki, Moona finished a Multidisciplinary language specialist study programme in the University of Jyväskylä. Her studies spanned between French, politics, business and development studies, concluding to a thesis touching upon the themes of international power and currency politics with a linguistic lense. She also worked at Finland’s cultural institute in Benin, an experience that strengthened her ambitions for cross-cultural collaboration.
At Demos Helsinki, Moona has contributed e.g. to MERGE and FINVI projects, deepening her research skills and coordinating with the stakeholders.
After office hours, Moona is out looking for gems in thrift shops, enjoying a great mix of beats (preferably at live concerts), leaving permanent ink on her friends’ skin, and cooking up goods in the kitchen.
