Iida Hakola
Questions around how humans behave in relation to living systems and why are at the core of Iida’s work. Iida is passionate about reimagining human-made systems to better enable sustainable living and building resilient communities. With a Master’s in Creative sustainability, Iida’s academic background is situated in the intersection of business and economy and their socio-ecological impacts. In her Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, Iida has explored alternative ways of designing monetary systems and investigated the capacity for addressing environmental and social impacts in local food production in Finland. Iida brings a systemic approach to whatever she works with.
With lots of experience from event organizing, Iida’s skilled in bringing people together around contested topics and creating spaces where bold questions can be asked and conflicts navigated. She sees this as a central way of navigating into a more sustainable future.
At Demos Helsinki, Iida has supported research on scaling up alternative proteins in LIKE-A-PRO and creating an updated participatory budgeting strategy for the city of Helsinki.
In her free time, you can often find her learning foreign languages for fun, for example by reading the product label of a random food item.
