Seona Candy, she/her

Seona Candy

Seona is leading the cross-cutting theme of socio-ecological justice and just transitions at Demos Helsinki. This involves not only how to collaboratively imagine sustainable and equitable futures, but also how to design, implement and monitor transitions to ensure the way to get there is fair, legitimate and socially just. Seona has the understanding and know-how to apply these in various contexts, resulting in new processes, policies and solutions.

She is an experienced researcher with over a decade of experience with multi-stakeholder research projects focusing on sustainability transformations with public, private and civil actors. These range from developing narratives and modelling dynamic scenarios for future food systems, to co-creating low-carbon visions and pathways for cities and regions.

Before joining Demos, she was involved in transdisciplinary academic research in different universities, and has a PhD in Infrastructure Engineering from the University of Melbourne in Australia.

At Demos Helsinki, Seona coordinates our activities on the Horizon EU-funded TANDEM project, which uses a deliberative approach to co-develop just transition pathways in energy and mobility across five diverse regions in Europe. She also works on the SRC-funded SISU project investigating sufficiency solutions for a resilient, green and just Finland.

Outside of work, Seona is an avid cross-country skier, something she has loved doing since she was a child. Although this might not seem so unusual in Finland, she grew up in Australia, a country associated more with sunny beaches than snow.
