De Bruxelles à Helsinki! Lina is our expert on multilevel governance from a city perspective. In her previous role, she ensured that cities’ viewpoints were considered in the EU legislative process. Focusing on the climate transition and legislation to tackle pollution in cities, she has drafted and executed numerous advocacy strategies spanning EU policies on urban air and water quality to nature restoration.
Lina is particularly interested in the different layers of city systems, how they interact with each other and how they can be probed to achieve both net neutrality and healthy living environments for citizens. Prior to Demos, she worked on shaping governance frameworks for the transition to a circular economy and for climate-proofing our societies. She also explored different funding solutions to make these transitions happen on the ground.
She has also led the process of creating a system for supporting cities in accessing EU funding and for using innovation projects as part of city-wide strategies. In this way, cities can both be climate frontrunners while pushing forward the frontiers of research. She continues this work with us at Demos as part of NetZeroCities, where she focuses on (national) funding frameworks to help cities bridge the climate finance gap.
Slava Ukraini! As part of Sun4Ukraine, she supports Ukrainian cities in their sustainable re-building efforts and explores potential synergies with the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.
Outside the office, Lina can be found working on another type of transition; swim-bike-run! She is an avid trail runner and her current goal is to move away from duathlons to triathlons by improving her technique and becoming a better swimmer.
