Cecilia af Hällström

Cecilia’s work focuses on societal transformations that foster a culture of care and responsibility that sustains the planet in all its diversity. A society within planetary boundaries, where all life can flourish, is the goal – systemic changes in governance, societal structures, behaviours and cultures is what Cecilia works with to get there. Whether it’s developing circular economy strategies, strengthening biodiversity and climate policies or advancing eco-social justice – you can turn to her. Bringing a social scientist’s lens to these efforts, Cecilia combines big-picture thinking with grounded action to shape a more joyful and sustainable tomorrow. 

With an academic background in political science and political philosophy, and experience in journalism, Cecilia is always ready to question the dominant narratives and explore new perspectives. It is this curiosity that allows her to dive deep into any topic, embrace uncertainty and appreciate the power of questions. What drives all her efforts is a commitment to rethink and reimagine ways of being to move beyond the  power structures that harm the planet, more-than-human beings, and people alike.

At Demos Helsinki, she has applied these perspectives to the implementation of the National Circular Economy Green Deal and the Identification of Green Skills among other projects, and she is currently working with UNIDO on Design for Circularity.

When she’s not at the Demos Helsinki’s office, you can find her running on Helsinki’s forest trails. She is a reliable source for vegan recipes and restaurant tips, and perhaps most importantly, she’s a proud godmother to Paavo the pig, who lives happily at the animal rescue sanctuary Saparomäki.
