We are looking for a seasoned Communications and Information Manager to manage the communication flows of a large-scale city innovation program covering different European regions. This is a full-time position starting late 2025.
Demos Helsinki
Demos Helsinki is a globally operating, non-profit and independent think tank. We are a community of motivated experts dedicated to instigating and sustaining essential transitions to a fair, sustainable and joyful future. We believe that change can only happen together. That is why we carry out consultative and research projects together with hundreds of partners, such as private international foundations, UN organisations, the European Commission and also companies. Over the past 20 years, we have grown into an over 70-person organisation working on more than 100 projects per year with a forecasted revenue of over 5 M€.
Communications and Information Manager – key responsibilities
As a core responsibility, you’ll oversee the programme’s stakeholder communications, ensuring alignment with communication policies and compliance requirements, mitigating risks, and providing both copy-editing and other support where needed. You’ll also be responsible for data collection and consolidation, producing high-quality reports for the programme.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic and fast-paced environments, is highly responsible and dependable, is driven to get things done, and can successfully coordinate multiple work streams with multiple partners. Your work will be carried out in English, in which we expect you to have native-level fluency. Other language skills are not required, but might be an advantage when working with the regional partners.
Specifics of the role
This is a position of high responsibility, which also allows you, alongside your Demos Helsinki team, to affect the future of European cities. You’ll manage, coordinate, and support 20+ programme stakeholders, ensuring the delivery and reporting of communications activities that are high-quality, consistent, and fully aligned with programme guidelines. You will be part of the international program team at Demos Helsinki, where you will coordinate activities, co-design approaches, and align decisions.
You’ll also be in charge of program reporting, making sure the program-related information is accurate, up to date, actionable, and accessible. Within your Demos Helsinki team, you’ll support your colleagues in turning their topical expertise into engaging communications towards both project stakeholders and the larger public.
In addition to your work within the program, you will also engage with other colleagues across the organisation. As a Demosian overall, you’ll be engaged with driving forward our goal for a fair, sustainable and joyful next era together with our larger community, beyond specific programmes or projects, contributing especially to strengthening our organisational communications capacities.
Examples of what the role would look like in practice:
- Managing the communication activities and management of robust information-based assets between multiple partners spanning different European regions, ensuring overall communications fully align with the program guidelines.
- Setting up and implementing proper tools for program reporting, from standard reports to ad hoc requests.
- Establishing and managing program-related communication databases, ensuring information is accurate, up to date, and actionable.
- Supporting communications capabilities through various methods, e.g., designing and delivering training events for high-quality communication both in the program partner network and within Demos Helsinki (e.g., clarity of messages, storytelling, adjusting styles to different audiences depending on the channel, copywriting basics)
- Identifying and creating impactful stories based on data and creating clear, engaging content for the program with a strong emphasis on storytelling.
- Creating content for other Demos Helsinki work areas for a range of audiences, including funding proposals, event organisation, editorial content, and other initiatives.
- Strengthening organisational communications capacity by applying your skills in various activities across Demos Helsinki’s work in societal transformation.
What we expect from you:
- Native-level fluency in English
- 5+ years of experience in (corporate) communications, public affairs, policy, public innovation, or a related field
- Experience and understanding of region-based public affairs, media, and communications channels across media
- Strong written and verbal communications and messaging skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with public sector, non-profit, or think tanks, or similar mission-driven project organisations
- Ability to shift between strategic objectives and operational details seamlessly: you are able to rapidly marshal people, knowledge, tools and networks to move from idea to execution to impact
- Critical thinking and curiosity for continuous learning – you don’t always have the answers, but you learn as you go
- Strong collaboration skills: you enjoy motivating others and building trust-based relationships even in complex situations
Traits that likely indicate success:
- You are impact-driven and can demonstrate an ethos that celebrates collaboration.
- You thrive in a dynamic international environment, including collaboration across time zones when needed.
- You are able to shift between long-term, strategic objectives while also being very detail-oriented.
