Agenda 2030 in Finland: Key questions and indicators of sustainable development

This report presents the key results of the Avain2030 project. The project aimed to support national sustainable development efforts by building an analytical and neutral knowledge base for the implementation of Agenda2030. Its primary purpose was to perform an analysis supporting the implementation of sustainable development goals and targets, identifying the most urgent key challenges and opportunities for sustainable development from the national perspective.

Avain2030 project (Sustainable Development Key Issues and Action Plan 2030) examined Finland’s current position and identified its challenges and successes as a part of UN’s global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The study was commissioned by Finnish Government and conducted by Demos Helsinki and Finnish Environment Institute.

Finland performs well in international benchmarking on sustainable development, but in recent years our position has dropped in most rankings. Finland should concentrate especially on social inequalities and employment as well as matters related to climate and consumption of natural resources. Finland still has all the potential to remain among the top-ranking countries.
