Jussi Asikainen bio

Jussi Asikainen

Humans are forced to make sense of the infinite reality using finite faculties and tools. During this process, it is easy to mistake simplicity for clarity. It is the latter one that we are after, and Jussi helps us towards this goal. His analytical mindset and ability to synthesise diverse viewpoints, even those that initially appear contradictory, create opportunities to conceptualise the multidimensional phenomena we work with. He is interested in highlighting the underlying assumptions and value judgements, both conscious and hidden, according to which societal questions are discussed and framed.

Prior to joining us, Jussi worked in the finance sector, in competition control as a researcher, and in auditing. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and will soon graduate with a Master of Social Sciences, majoring in Philosophy. For his M.Soc.Sc. master’s thesis,  he studied the society shaping role of neoclassical economics within a socio-philosophical framework.

At Demos Helsinki, Jussi has worked, for example, on economic policies beyond GDP in the Horizon Europe project MERGE, as well as on the future work for public administration.

Outside of work, Jussi’s time is spread thin over too many interests, resulting in none of them being a definitive hobby. Sometimes, however, these interests can come together, resulting, for example, in an evening with enjoyable food, good music, and excellent conversations.
