Helmi Huoviala
Helmi is a big believer in the power of knowledge – a principle that guides her work in supporting cities through sustainability transitions. As a near-graduating law student, she is especially keen on the role of regulation and law-making in tackling the biggest challenges of our time. Helmi’s study and work background offers a versatile blend of environmental, climate, and EU law, with a pinch of dispute resolution. Helmi’s master’s thesis studies the complex relationship between foreign investment and the EU’s climate commitments.
At Demos Helsinki, Helmi’s days as a Junior Expert consist of a healthy mix of exploring participation in sustainability transitions within the Material Democracy project, supporting Finnish cities’ climate governance in NetZeroCities, and assisting in legal contractual matters.
Helmi’s perfect day starts with a big breakfast and ends with a sauna. After hours, she can be found running by the seaside, singing in a choir, or experimenting with various forms of arts and crafts.
