Vera Saavalainen

Captivated by all things sustainability, Vera is working towards systemic transformation for a sustainable planet. She is fascinated by the way in which proposed sustainability solutions impact the system they exist in and applies this fascination to her work at Demos Helsinki. As a self-professed lover of Excel, Vera finds joy in breaking down big sheets of data into actionable insights. However, she knows that numbers only tell half of the story and will not hesitate to dive into qualitative transcripts and thematic analysis. 

Alongside Demos Helsinki, Vera is a Creative Sustainability student at Aalto University working on her thesis on the role of collaboration for systemic change in the Finnish textile industry. Prior to Demos Helsinki, Vera worked in trade associations advancing the sustainability of the Finnish industry. 

Currently, Vera is working with the SISU and LIKE-A-PRO projects.  

In her free time, Vera finds tranquillity in being near bodies of water, whether that is dipping in the sea during lunch hour or going aqua jogging in the swimming hall. She is especially fond of observing waterfowl and their squabbles.
