Sari Baldauf (M.B.A., B.Sc.) and Mikael Sokero (M.Soc.Sci) have been appointed as Board Members of Demos Helsinki. Baldauf has acted as Executive Vice President and General Manager at Nokia from 1998 to 2005. She has been a member of Nokia’s board since 2018, as well as a Member of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG and a Member of Aalto University board. Mikael Sokero is a senior expert in Demos Helsinki’s Science in Society team.
– Demos Helsinki wants to affect the ongoing global transformations actively. Climate change, digitalisation and urbanisation will have an impact on all sectors. By 2030, all major industries will have to undergo a significant change. Sari Baldauf strengthens our capabilities to solve this wicked equation with the growing number of international partners, says Juha Leppänen, Chief Executive of Demos Helsinki.
In 2018, Demos Helsinki recruited 12 new employees, and one-fifth of the work was done internationally, in almost 20 countries. The total revenue was 3.7 million euros. Demos Helsinki has governments, cities, universities, companies, and NGOs as partners.
The appointment of Sari Baldauf brings a deeper understanding of internationalisation and global markets to Demos Helsinki. As a board professional, Baldauf will also help develop board work that supports growth.
– Since its establishment, Demos Helsinki’s operating model and partner network have been international. Now, we focus on building continuity with our partners. To succeed in building sustainable and fair post-industrial societies, we need to unite with the world’s brightest changemakers, Leppänen says.
Mikael Sokero starts as a new employee board member. He has specialised in supporting universities with their strategy processes and reinforcing the role of science in society.
Tuija Talvitie, Chief Executive of Crisis Management Initiative, continues as Chairman of the Board and Oona Frilander, Senior Expert, as another employee board member.
