We thrive as catalysts for meaningful progress
Demos Helsinki is an independent think tank working with the public sector, private sector, and NGOs within Finland and worldwide. Governments and other organisations come to Demos Helsinki looking for new ideas, concepts, points of improvement, and strategic change when old tools become outdated. Our people lead the way in realising ambitious strategic agendas that create positive change. We work with global actors, including the United Nations, the OECD, the European Commission, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and a great number of others, to reshape societies.
Our work is driven by our impact model, and our vision is centred around actively impacting the ongoing global transformations and aiming to build sustainable, joyful, and fair post-industrial societies.
What it's like to be a part of our team
Joining the team at Demos Helsinki means embracing a culture that values critical thinking, initiative, proactiveness, and innovative approaches. Our diverse team of 70+ individuals comes from varied backgrounds (and so can be yours!), including political science, urban design, behavioural science, economics, and engineering, representing a tapestry of perspectives and experiences from various different cultures.
Our values manifest in our daily work life at Demos Helsinki. Every day, our team members are deeply involved in diverse projects spanning public sector innovation, strategy consulting, research, and the enhanced utilisation of scientific knowledge in society. This diversity of work reflects our commitment to solving complex societal challenges. Whether we're collaborating with governments to create new policy tools, assisting organisations in governing portfolios or delving into research to shape the future of cities, each endeavour aligns with our overarching vision to ignite transformative progress.
This is how working with us will look like:
Versatility
Rather than being limited to a single project, you’ll have the chance to engage in a wide array of initiatives, depending on your preferences and interests.
Idea-driven culture
We value every idea and encourage active participation in shaping our projects and the organisation itself. Your input matters, and we're committed to bringing innovative concepts to life.
Autonomy
You own your ideas and initiatives. Our flat hierarchy and highly democratic governance structure enable you to take matters into your own hands and turn them into reality.
Inclusive environment
We prioritise a collaborative and respectful culture, making every day enjoyable and fulfilling. Regardless of your background, we welcome you to bring your unique perspective.
Leadership opportunities
You are encouraged to build and lead your own projects and professional development to make an impact on our organisation and beyond. And remember, no matter how challenging it is, you always have the support from us all.
Continuous learning
We believe in learning from each other. All questions are equally important, so never hesitate to ask. Want to host a Think Tanking session to share your knowledge and experience? You can expect a full turnout from our curious colleagues!
Flexibility
While we love seeing colleagues in our Helsinki office, we also enable remote work and flexible hours, allowing you to work from wherever you are in the world.
Humility
We talk all the time about our humble approach, and we indeed walk the talk. We may fail, but we apply the lessons learned in the next ventures. Knowing what you don’t know is a solid start.
Wellbeing
Whether feeling overwhelmed midway through work or dealing with a serious illness, you are advised to take a rest and return only when fully recovered. We care for our colleagues because feeling great would fuel greatness in everything we do!
Demos Helsinki's internship programme
We take pride in our internship programme. As an intern at Demos Helsinki, you will immediately be treated as an equal member of a team. You will be heard and respected and your opinions will affect the outcome of our many projects.
Some of our interns may also choose to focus a part or all of their time on horizontal responsibilities enabling our work, such as sales, communications and marketing, financial administration, legal matters or human resources.

- Compensation and 6-8 days of paid leave during your internship (depending on the duration of your internship).
