In the International Expert project initiative the Centre for International Mobility (CIMO) and Demos Helsinki found out what international expertise in the 2010s is about.
This research shows the significance and importance of being international in the changing society and the work environment of the future. The global megatrends that impact society affect the work environment in a way that remains unrecognised. Learning happens increasingly outside the formal structures and frameworks. Simultaneously the working methods and the demanded areas of expertise evolve.
The International Expert project was based on extensive material collected in workshops and through a survey. The research was carried out during autumn 2012 and winter 2013. The workshops drew 150 professionals from a range of fields, and the survey reached 2 000 Finnish employers and university finalists. The project culminated in the publication of the project report called Hidden Competences in the spring of 2013, translated into English in autumn 2013.
