Paul is a strategic designer and engineer. He is fascinated with circularity and post-growth economies. He has worked with startups, NGOs, and agencies across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Paul has a background in software and hardware engineering, as well as manufacturing physical, internet-connected hardware for disaster risk reduction. With a passion for frugal innovation, he was part of the founding team of Lumkani, a South African startup that installed around 50,000 life saving fire detectors in South Africa, Kenya, and Bangladesh. He has lectured on embedded systems at the University of Cape Town, and consulted on regenerative business models for startups and the public sector.
At Demos Helsinki, Paul works is focusing on social innovation and business model development for the Net Zero Cities Consortium.
In his free time he enjoys mushroom picking, woodworking, and tinkering with DIY electronics.
