Núria is a Junior Consultant in the Expanding Agency team at Demos Helsinki.

As an educator, Núria is passionate about education as a means to achieve social justice. For her, education has the potential to act as an equaliser and is a motor for social change. Originally from Spain, she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Education and Globalisation at the University of Oulu, and also holds a minor in Diversity in Urban Areas from the University of Amsterdam. The central themes of her work revolve around education policy and governance from a comparative perspective. With her master’s thesis, Nuria aims to explore how the Finnish comprehensive education system is experiencing and managing the global pressure towards privatisation and neoliberal policies.

Prior to joining Demos, Núria gained experience in the research field. Most recently, she worked on an ERC-funded project which analysed how and why school autonomy with accountability reforms are being adopted in countries with different administrative traditions. In addition, she has experience working at NGOs in the fields of migrant and feminist education from a bottom-up approach. Nuria worked as a teacher while pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences, which allowed her to put into practice her pedagogical knowledge and skills.

Outside of work she enjoys discovering Helsinki, meeting with friends at coffee shops, and taking long walks in nature.
